{April 8, 2008}   Pearl & Lace

When Prince penned the song “Diamonds and Pearl(s)………” it must have been an ode to Pearl Lowe, uber rock-chick and vintage fashionista!

We recently attended the launch of designer, Pearl Lowe’s dresses, which are available exclusively in Ireland at fab fashion emporium, Butik in Newbridge, County Kildare.

For those not in the rock n roll know, Pearl is a one-time supreme rock chick turned organic Goddess! Now married to Danny Goffey of Supergrass fame, Pearl has shunned the bright lights of London for a 14th century country retreat in Hampshire with organic gardens and nature abound.

Pearl’s new range of divine, vintage inspired lace dresses are just gorgeous & make us feel like pretty Audrey Tatou and Audrey Heburn look-a-likes!

Her range is made from ethically sourced vintage lace and each dress is bespoke and can be tailered to the customers own size. Pearl works with a fab dress-maker and takes orders for one-off pieces too, she’s currently making a vintage inspired, eco-chic wedding dress for a client using salvaged lace.

Butik, which is owned by the fab Mel Coyne, is just brimming with fabulous frocks in all colours and designs, but Pearl’s range is the first ethically inspired range to adorn this chic boutique and hopefully we’ll see more ethical brands in the store soon (hint).

{August 18, 2007}   I’ve got a Hairy Baby!!!

Okay, okay I don’t have an actual hairy child persay, but we are huuuuge fans of Hairy Baby tee-shirts. They not only have nifty tees for the sproglings but also for the big kids too (us adults!).

If you haven’t discovered Hairy Baby tees by now, then get your tushie in gear, get on their website & order the best rib-tickling, gigglefit inducing threads you’re likely to find this side of the Galaxy.

The slogans on the tees are quintessentially Oirish (but not in a twee Leprachaun way, more of a savvy pop-cultural analysis kind of way).

But the big bonus with Hairy Baby is that all their tees are made from Organic Cottons and environmentally friendly dyes.

They have an online store on their website, are based in Kerry & do FREEEEE deliveries.

Our fave tees are;

We’ve got only one teeny tiny criticism, we wish that their slogans were a bit bigger!

{August 16, 2007}   Fab clothes for Eco-Fashionistas

Lets face it ladies, looking good is kind of hard sometimes. But looking good & trying to be ethical is near impossible or is it!?!!

Well worry no more, I’ve trawled the Streets of Dublin (& the cyber highway) on a quest to find Organic/Vintage & Recycled Fabrics. And here’s what I’ve found……..

  • SkunkFunk
get funked with SkunkFunk (Dublin 1), a fab Spanish brand which is opening their first Irish store in 2 weeks time in the Italian Quarter, Dublin 1. The brand has recently started making clothes with bamboo, soy & organic cotton fabrics, which are totally fab and well worth checking out for festival fitness & summer style savvy!

  • New Look
in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre is doing a lovely range of Organic Clothes (modelled by TV Presenter and Fashionista Fern Cotton) which are ooh so pretty & suit all shapes and sizes

  • Laura Ashley
on Grafton Street (Dublin 1) have been doing a beautiful range of Vintage 70’s clothes all summer & even better they’re in Organic Cotton

  • TopShop
on Stephens Green were doing a gorgeous brand called People Tree (couldn’t find it when I went in the othe day to purchase though, bah!)

  • Marks & Spencers
are doing a range of Organic Cottons but you have to look really hard to find them, as they don’t have them in a dedicated Organic Section (Grrrr!)

  • WildChild
Based in Templebar (Dublin 2) this retro/vintage clothing outlet is a mecca for divine & eclectic must-haves

a super cool and funky tee-shirt company based in Kerry. Check out the only hilarious slogans on their tees (for adults and the wee ones also).
Ali Hewon’s (Mrs Bono) line of organic & fair-trade clothing. It’s been in Brown Thomas for the past 5 seasons but this season they’ve decided not to stock it, boooo!
as mentioned above, it was in TopShop but have a gander around their website anyhow! – fab designers from the US of A, who do organic cottons, hemp and soy. Stunning clothes, swoooonsome and droolsome threads!
great UK online store that has organic clothes and lots more luxe items to get excited about!
a Welsh clothing brand, very coooooool & skater-styleee!

This fashion piece will be updated regularly so keep logging on for more fabulous updates dahlings!
